I am interested in the idea of using imagery in glass to create beautiful moments that are representative of some of the most intense and horrific aspects of psychological issues such as depression, anxiety and addiction that many people in our society experience in their daily lives. I attempt to create hidden memoirs of different aspects of my life and those around me, through placing the viewer in a position that immediately draws them to subtly and beauty. Once they approach my work, it becomes evident that there is a hidden message of turmoil and pain. This creates a platform for the viewer to relate to the subject matter with their own personal histories and emotions.

My “memoirs” deal with many different themes including issues revolving around adolescence, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, and illness. I have found a way to use my work as a medium in which to divulge my darkest secrets. I often put myself on the line, bringing myself into uncomfortable positions by exposing my private thoughts and emotions.
In addition to using imagery to express my current views on life, I often use text to create an atmosphere, gradient or environment. Many people diagnosed with mental illnesses complain of racing thoughts and the inability to focus on one problem at a time. By using a layering of imagery and information, I attempt to describe this to those who are not afflicted. A recurring visual theme is that of cursive writing. I use the rapid handwriting where all the letters are connected to add a sense of allurement. The text is created using glue in a syringe as a resist. My processes are a vital aspect of my craft and give me a sense of cognitive therapy.
